The Jamaica National Heritage Trust in association with local community groups will be staging the Seville Cultural Village celebrations on the grounds of the historic and beautifully landscaped Seville Heritage Park in St. Ann from March 17-April 21, 2007.
The Cultural Village will feature a series of events expected to capture the attention of both locals and visitors to the island. Each event has a particular theme, and there will be a total of six events – all with an aim to promote the island’s rich cultural heritage. Seville Heritage Park will have historical displays, real Jamaican craft, traditional foods and exotic drinks, fashions depicting periods 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. In addition, musical entertainment will depict the evolution of Jamaican music through the years.
The events of the cultural village will include the following:
- Jamaica Vintage Night with Fab Five, Merritones and other top artistes on Saturday, March 17. There will be displays reflecting Jamaican music. Dress code is 60’s, 70’s, 80’s outfits.
- Comedy Bus with all the top comedians in this competition on Sunday, April 15. Exhibition will be on all our comedians in the past and present.
- Cultural & Wellness Family Village with the North Jamaica Mission of Seventh Day Adventist on Sunday, March 25. This event will put the family at the centre of activities and will focus on various aspects of the church throughout the day and a gospel concert at night.
- Kite Festival puts the focus on the family on Monday, April 9. This is the fourth anniversary of a spectacular event that shows off the skills, craftsmanship and pure joy that is to be had in kite flying. There is something for everyone.
- Crowning of Miss North Coast, Saturday, April 14.
- Domino tournament & boxing exhibition to recapture the ambiance and festivity of the “olden” days
According to the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, the cultural packages at Seville Heritage Park are designed to draw persons to the property to celebrate Jamaica’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, especially at this time when Jamaica is on show to the world. Despite all of its historical significance, the story of Seville remains one of Jamaica’s best-kept heritage secrets. This plan is aimed at sharing some of these secrets with the world though cultural events during the months of March and April. Contribution is adults: $500.00 pre-sold and $600 at the gate, while children pay $200.00.
