Jericho Baptist Church

Parish: St.Catherine

Jericho Baptist
Jericho Baptist Church.
Jericho Baptist Church, erected in 1835, is of cut stone and brick construction. The main structure of the building is covered by a zinc hip roof. The original red brick staircase on the south elevation leads up to a wooden balcony inside the Church.

The Church was begun by John Clarke, a Baptist missionary. It is said that when the construction of the building was completed, it was often found insufficient to accommodate all who went there to hear the Gospel. The Church was a significant contributor to the welfare of the blacks during the post-emancipation period.
